A Poem for a Dark Day

Sitting in a forest

(My mind buzz buzzing

With petty squabbles

And slights and indecisions

And the vastness of inequality

What I’m going to eat for dinner

How I’ll pay the bills)

I hear birds singing

Leaves rustling

The noises of life, unstoppable

And am reminded:

I’m a part of this forest

On a mountain

This mountain in a country

This country in a continent

This continent in an ocean

This ocean in a hemisphere

This hemisphere in a world

This world in a solar system

This solar system in a galaxy

This galaxy in a milky way

This milky way in a universe

This universe in an infinity

This infinity in an eternity

And for a moment

My mind stops buzzing.
